These Nectar I.C.E. tables are unique in their size, height and finish. The original tables were created for the September 12, 2001 opening of the Nectar Bar at the Bellagio Resort Hotel in Las Vegas. A bar imagined as cool solid melting in the desert. The ceiling melts into a column, which in turn melts into a floor of terrazzo flecked with glacier-toned glass mosaics, the same glass mosaics set into the I.C.E. tabletops. I.C.E. represents each first initial of the artist's three daughters. This pair was created for the artist's residence.
Made in Chicago, 2001. The table top frame and base were hand carved in maple and cast in recycled magnesium-aluminum alloy and then hand-polished.
The columns are composed of aluminum pipe and spun aluminum escutcheons. Glacier-blue glass mosaics were inset in the cast top and then hand polished, after which the metals were rubbed with acid to create a dark patina.
