PROCESS + MATERIALS
The Musashi Side Tables were made in Chicago in 2016. Their bases were carved in maple and cast in 93% recycled magnesium-aluminum alloy. They were then hand polished and rubbed with with elixirs to patina the fresh metal. The tops are solid, hand-carved by the artist and his team from 4.5”-thick, spalted Sycamore grown in a private forest in Michigan. Dried in a solar kiln. Hand rubbed natural oil finish. Each table is unique. The massive wood has irregularities such as spalting and irregular grain: these natural features are to be celebrated. Please message us with questions.
Created for a lounge at Sotheby's New York. Miyamoto Musashi was a poet/philosopher/artist/warrior/strategist from Japan in the 1600's whose story was introduced to the artist on the second of his 25 trips to Japan, a story that continues to inspire him... The base casting was originally created for East Hotel in Hamburg, a project founded upon repurposing an abandoned foundry and evoking in the guest the surreal excitement of a westerner in Asia for the first time.
SMALL BATCH STUDIO FURNISHINGS
Mozer Studios LLC handcrafts all of their small batch products. They are never mass produced. We invite our patrons to embrace the nuanced irregularities of the form, surface and finishes as evidence of handwork, defining each piece as 1 of kind...
