Jordan Mozer (b. 1958), H57 Torchiere/ Floor Lamp; Cast Bronze, Blown Glass, Made in Chicago, USA, 2008. 15" in diameter and 77" tall (38cm in diameter x 195.5cm tall).
The lamp base was hand carved in maple and cast in 95% recycled red-bronze. It was then hand polished and encouraged to patina by elixirs and flames. The trunk is composed of textured bronze tube. The glass shade was hand-blown glass and is composed of a warm white under layer layer, a warm crystal and features an irregular saturated oxblood lip wrap. A cast bronze apple-blossom finial secures the glass to lamp shaft. The wiring is suitable for commercial assembly spaces and bears a UL label. The cord is outfitted with a shirred textile "sweater".
Jordan Mozer and Associates, Limited (JMA) was commissioned to renovate a hotel on 57th street between Park Avenue and Lexington. The building was built in the 1920s as a progressive hotel for women in the arts, academia and business seeking an alternative to traditional women’s boarding houses in the flapper era. The project was conceived by Mr. Blum, an upper east-side fashion designer. It was built with natural materials and featured idiosyncratic hand- made details, such as wrought iron and hand made bricks. Mozer's renovation celebrated the vertical lines of flapper fashion and the spirit of the original building.
Mozer's studio designed and hand-made studio lighting and furnishings for the project.
